The 52nd BEMUS opened on November 3 with the gala concert at the Madlenianum Opera and Theatre performed by Maria Guleghina, who enchants audiences around the world with her rich soprano for more than three decades, and the orchestra of this house, conducted by Dejan Savić.
In a short statement given by Guleghina before the performance, she emphasized that she was looking forward to the concert in Belgrade because she was singing there for the first time, but also because this was her first performance since the beginning of COVID-19 pandemic.
"People all over the world like Verdi, Puccini, Giordano, that is why I decided to sing my favorite programme – Verdi and Verismo," said Guleghina, a dramatic soprano who has sung in all prestigious opera houses in her long career, with stars such as Pavarotti and Domingo, but also with Zeljko Lučić from Serbia.
Marija Guljegina performed the most important opera arias from her repertoire, therefore sharing the brightest moments from her decades-long career. She impressed the BEMUS audience, which she awarded with as many as four encores
