One of the most precious violinists of his generation was born in Brus, Serbia (1968).  Being currently very dedicated to pedagogy and conducting himself, he started learning the violin at the age of seven.  After a fruitful musical education at the School for Musical Talents in Ćuprija, in the classes of Đerđo Zazrović and Ljubivoj Nikolić, Gordan Nikolić went to study in Basel.  He acquired the diplomas of pedagogue and soloist at the College of Music (from 1987 and 1989) in the class of the famous French violinist and conductor Jean-Jacques Kantorov.  During that period, he also attended intensive interpretation courses held by Walter Levin, the founder and first violinist of the renowned La Salle string quartet, as well as composers Georgy Kurtág, Hans Werner Henze and Witold Lutoslawski.  Thanks to his many years of work as concertmaster in the Orchester d'Auvergne, Lausanne Chamber Orchestra, European Chamber Orchestra, and finally 20 years in the London Symphony Orchestra, he has gained enormous experience for the work at this important position, and that is why he is also a guest in many well-known ensembles around Europe.  He has often conducted the Chamber Orchestra of the London Symphony Orchestra, French National Orchestra, Manchester Chamber Orchestra, Rotterdam Philharmonic Orchestra, Lille Orchestra and the National Orchestra of Toulouse.  He has collaborated, among others, with the Geneva Chamber Orchestra, Madrid Symphony Orchestra and National Orchestra of Spain, LSO, Royal Antwerp Orchestra, Castilian-Leon Orchestra, Youth Orchestra of Catalonia and the Aurora Orchestra, and he was also the long-term music director of the Belgrade Strings of St.  George, as well as the first guest conductor of the Manchester Camerata.  Since 2004, Gordan Nikolić has been the artistic director of the Dutch Chamber Orchestra, and since 2005, the founder and music director of the independent orchestra BandArt in Spain.  He has a special affinity for baroque music as well as the works of contemporary authors, and his great love is chamber music.

As a soloist, he played under the direction of Sir Colin Davis, Bernard Haitink, Daniel Harding, Myun-Wung Chung, Jean-Jacques Kantorow, Mark Albrecht, Jacob Kreutzberg, Lawrence Foster and other world-renowned conductors.  He made numerous recordings for the publishing houses Alpha, Pentatone, LSO Live, Olympia, BNL, Warner Classics, and Onyx Classics.  For the German music production Tacet he recorded Gounod's symphonies and Mozart's violin concertos and last symphonies.  Among the awards at international competitions, the Tibor Varga, Niccolo Paganini, Vaclav Hummel and the City of Brescia Award stand out, as well as the nominations of the Gramophone and BBC Music Magazine critics, as well as the German critics' award.  In 2000, he was awarded the title of professor for string ensembles at the Royal College of Music in London.  In September 2003, he became a professor at the London School of Music and Drama Guildhall. Since 2005 he has been teaching at the Rotterdam Conservatory, and since 2017 he has been a professor at the College of Music in Saarbrücken.  He plays a Paul Belin violin (made in 2016) and Petrus Guarnerius from Venice, generously loaned to him by a private sponsor.
