pera-majaThe 4th edition of the EFA (European Festivals Association) Atelier for Young Festival Managers was hosted by the International Izmir Festival from 24 - 31 October 2011. Izmir is the 3rd largest city of Turkey and will be an inspiring venue for this edition of the Atelier. Among 38 participants coming from 26 countries and 5 continents, who have been selected for IZMIR 2011, were also two Bemus & Jugokoncert organizers, Maja Somborac and Petar Alempijević. 30 women and 8 men, with an average age of 30 years old, from Costa Rica, South Africa, Lebanon, Uganda, Singapore, New Zealand, Australia and a broad range of European countries were eager to meet, exchange and share their mission as creators of new artistic endeavors. Amongst EFA members represented have been the Belgrade Music Festival - BEMUS, the Berliner Festspiele, the Music Biennale Zagreb, the "George Enescu" International Festival (Bucharest), the International Bursa Festival, the International Festival Wratislavia Cantans (Wroclaw), the Bergen International Festival, the Istanbul International Music Festival and the Al Bustan Festival (Lebanon). Within the Atelier, young festival managers were given an opportunity to share their experiences both in artistic as well as in the production aspect of festival organization, they have worked in smaller groups, and participated within debates, panel discussions, lectures… Special attention has been given to case studies of Atelier participants which were presented within sessions. Eight renowned festival directors, cultural professionals  and artists have shared their rich experience in lectures, workshops, round tables and debates: Robyn Archer (Australia), Hugo DE GREEF (former EFA Secretary General, General Manager Brugge European Capital of Culture 2002, founder and former director Kaaitheater, Brussels), Robyn ARCHER (Creative Director The Centenary of Canberra, Artistic Director The Light in Winter, Melbourne), Nele HERTLING (member of Strategy Group, A Soul for Europe, Berlin, former Director Hebbel-Theatre, Berlin, General Manager Berlin European Capital of Culture 1988), Rose FENTON (International Arts Producer and Advisor, London), Ching–Lee GOH (Executive and Artistic Director CultureLink, Singapore, former Director Singapore Arts Festival), Michal MERCZYNSKI (Director of the National Audiovisual Institute, Warsaw and the Artistic Director of Malta Festival, Poznan), Jonathan MILLS (Festival Director and Chief Executive of the Edinburgh International Festival) and Fruzsina SZÉP (Programme Director Sziget Festival, Budapest, founding Director Hungarian Music Export Office).
